Mirror Coincidence: Call me the grammar queen

About an hour apart, two people asked me the difference between affect and effect. Ok, so a lot of people don't know the difference, but I haven't been asked that question in months. So how do I explain it? Affect causes the effect. That doesn't always work, but mostly it does. I usually have to ask them to tell me the context.

I always think of it as:

Affect is what is GOING to happen or the thing that causes something to happen.

Effect is the aftermath - or the effect of what affects it. :)

You put it so much better than I did.
