Required Reading: Calls to the Mystic Alice

I am a compulsive book buyer.  I now probably own over 50 metaphysical books.  Just this week, I bought 10 books in one trip to Half Price Books. Unfortunately, I often buy more books before I have read the ones that I have. Fortunately, I finally set out to read a book I purchased last year: Calls to the Mystic Alice by a psychic named Alice Rose Morgan.  It was a great read and in fact, I finished the whole book in two days, which is a rarity for me.  Alice talks about what she has learned over the years from her spirit guides (she calls them 'spooks' but I don't like that term). She talks about energy and Karma and reincarnation and 'working it out' on the Astral plane. If you're into all of that stuff, I would recommend that you find a copy of this book.

p.s. if anyone has suggestions for curing my acquisition problem...I'm listening

Directional Synchronicity: Ride the Rush

This is only going to make sense if you play poker, but I vowed to document all synchronicities...so I will try to explain.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I was just in Vegas.  I play 2-4 limit hold-em.  A player next to me taught me the term 'rush' which means that when you win, you keep on winning.  It is a very strange phenomenon.  I would not win for 4 or 5 hours and then I would win 5 or 6 hands in an hour.  It kept happening, but I never knew was a name for it.  Anyways, when you are in a 'rush, ' you will make hands that you would not normally make.  I made an insight straight on the river and won like $20.  The next hand I was in the exact same situation.. I had 4 out of 5 cards that I needed but the odds of the 5th card coming up were pretty small.  I decided to stay 'in' anyways and take my chances.  I turned to Mike, the player who taught me about 'rush' and said, "What did you say about riding the rush?" and sure enough, the next card that came up was the exact one I needed.  I'm not a statitician but the odds of hitting the inside straight 2 hands in a row are pretty small!  I consider it a synchronicity i guess.

Mirror Synchronicity: TV imitating life again

This one is a fun one I think.  I just got back from Vegas and was catching up on my DVR and on My Name is Earl, Earl sent another character to the National Rodeo Championships. Well, they took place at the MGM where I was staying in Vegas.  Amusing.

Directional Synchronicity: Synchronicity Circle

This story is a little long but well worth it.

A fellow Synchronicity fan, Sophia, posted a comment in one of my earlier blogs about how she had a synchronicity with my blog. Well, I haven't poked around the blogosphere for a while so I decided to go read her blog. (Which is fabulous by the way).  I read one post about a dream she had in which she had a sheet that said she was a Rosicrucian.
This post reminded me about my Grandmother who was very involved with the Rosicrucians in the 1950s. I had previously done a google search on her and was pleased to find her name listed in a directory, but I never found anything else. Seeing Sophia's blog reminded me to check again, since I know people are adding to google every day.

And here's what I found. A lovely POEM.  To my recollection, I have never seen this poem by my grandmother before.  It touched me in ways I cannot articulate.  My grandmother died when I was ten and I never got to know her very well.  Anyways... without further ado, here it is.  THANK YOU SOPHIA!

Two Songs
To awaken in the morning
With a song on your lips,
And to retire at night
With a song in your heart,
That, my child, is living.

Mirror Synchronicity: Give and you will receive

My friend just told me about his synchronicity which I thought I would add to the blog:

Last night at the newport I put a five-dollar-bill in the tip jar instead of a one, and realized my mistake when I couldn't find the five in my wallet. Then on the walk home, along 17th ave, I found a crisp five-dollar-bill on the sidewalk.

Mirror synchronicity: television lessons

Ok this has been the weirdest two days with regards to synchronicity.
I have a class on human development which talks about psychological development. In class on Monday we learned about bullies and also about midlife crises.
In another class I had a case study that had an elderly woman who had dementia and thought people were breaking into her home.

That night I watched Desperate Housewives on DVR and all three topics were on that one episode.

The tonight in another class on womens issues, I learned about bipolar disorder and then I come home and decide to catch up on the latest Law and Order SVU and sure enough, Bipolar disorder is the main topic.

If you're a regular reader, you know I blog big and small synchronicities...but these are the weirdest I have had in a while.

Directional Synchronicity: happy accident

I recently bought a very tiny computer that weighs 2lbs. it's great for surfing the web and checking email in front of the tv. Unfortunately, the keyboard is tiny too. I use Google email and fat fingered when was trying to delete an email. Suddenly this website came up. http://www.philosophyworks.org/content/meditation.

In hindsight I realized that I clicked accidentally on the adwords.

The quote on the page that caught my eye was this, "In order to be what we are, we have to come out of what we are not." This completely applies to my life right now because I am in the process of switching careers but I haven't been able to fully let go of the baggage of my old job and life. This quote is another reminder that I need to make space for my new life by purging the mental and literal baggage and stuff from my old. Anyone need any SAS books? ha ha!

Mirror Coincidence: Co-mingle

I was watching a fictional show on television and I don't remember the context, but the actor used the word, "co-mingle" which I haven't heard a lot and I thought that was an unusual word. Within a couple of hours I was watching a DVD of another show and they used the word co-mingle again.

Now my husband would say it's absolutely ridiculous for me to write about this, but he doesn't believe in synchronicities anyways. Whatever... I just thought it was interesting because I don't hear that word a lot and then suddenly I heard it twice.

Hmmmm.... Does it mean I have co-mingling to do in my future?

from http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/co-mingle
Verb
to co-mingle (third-person singular simple present co-mingles, present participle co-mingling, simple past and past participle co-mingled)
(intransitive) To mingle with others; to cause to become mingled.
Dictionary editors disagree about the degree to which words should co-mingle.
(transitive) To mix.
Funds for different purposes are not to be co-mingled.

Mirror Synchronicity: Universal Light Expo

I was at a metaphysical bookstore looking at Chakra jewelry because my cat stole my necklace and I wasn't happy with the selection. The clerk suggested that I might find what I was looking for at the upcoming Universal Light Expo (http://www.universeexpo.com/). She showed me a newspaper advertising the expo and I asked if she had any coupons. She mentioned there was a $1 off in the paper. When I got home though, I had a postcard coupon in the mail. Ask the universe and it shall be granted!

Mirror Synchronicity: Two Postcard Day

I am an active tweeter on Twitter. http://twitter.com/ (not under this name). Yesterday I was thinking that I hadn't tweeted in a while but I didn't want to tweet something random and boring. I thought that the type of thing I would like to tweet is when it's a 'two postcard day'... meaning I received two postcards in the mail. Sure enough, I walked out to the mailbox not 10 minutes later to find two postcards. Yippeee... Yes, I tweeted!

Mirror Coincidence: Aliens among us

This is a fun coincidence, I think. At work we are in the midst of a United Way campaign. As a fundraiser, one group orchestrated a Family Feud game. My department's mascot is a big blow up alien named Earl, so in honor of Earl we named our team the 'martians' and all wore green.

The second question in our Family Feud game was 'What are the physical characteristics of an alien?.' The organizers swore up and down that the question assignment was random and that it was just a coincidence!

Mirror Synchronicity: Butterfly

I was in my living room reading and hanging out with my cat. I noticed that she was intently watching a butterfly. I watched her watching the butterfly for a couple of minutes. When I looked down to continue reading, the very next sentence in the book was a butterfly metaphor.

Mirror Synchronicity: you've got mail

Three people today told me that I would be receiving something in the mail in the next few things and they were talking about three different things.

I love getting mail...

Mirror Synchronicity: Reunion on the mind

BJ, a friend of mine, was driving to the airport for his 20 year reunion (class of 1988.) He had not been to other reunions before and he was excited to see old friends again.

On his way to the airport, he stopped for gas. He wasn't paying attention when he filled his tank but when he looked over at the pump, it was 8.888 gallons.

Incidentally, the reunion was on 08/08/08 but that was no accident, just a very clever reunion planner.

On t.v.: Psychic Kids

Oooh Psychic Kids is my new favorite show. FINALLY there is a show about psychic ability that's not stupid. I have seen three episodes so far and I have really enjoyed them. I like how the kids learn how to overcome their fears and understand and appreciate this 'gift' that they have.

The premise is that the hosts, an adult psychic (Chip Coffey) and a psychologist (Lisa Miller) visit kids who are psychic and help them work out their issues and they also do what they can to prove to the parents that their kids aren't crazy. Most parents are somewhat open to the idea that there kids are psychic, because they wouldn't have gone on the show otherwise, but you can tell that they are relieved when they validate that their kids aren't just nut jobs.

My husband, a complete non-believer, did some internet research to try to discredit the psychologist with the idea that anyone who believes in psychics is a quack. He couldn't find anything though, and conceeded that her research seems legit.

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Mirror Coincidence: Wallets

My husband and I work at the same place and sometimes we carpool. When we got to work today my husband realized he forgot his wallet. He asked if he could borrow $20. I started digging in my purse and I couldn't find my wallet either. We both forgot our wallets on the same day!

Reading Auras

Well, if you got here because you want to learn how to read auras, you've come to the wrong place. I'm actually asking if anyone can tell me how to develop that skillset? I tried today in a meeting that was long and drawn out and I managed to see shapes around people, but no color. argh! It could just be my dry eye too. I had to stop because I was afraid of the permanent cross-eyed look might hamper my chances for a promotion.

any suggestions?

My fortune cookie

Yesterday my fortune cookie message was a keeper.

"You have the ability to touch the lives of many people."

Ok, so I know I don't have a huge readership on this blog, and that's ok. I' m not really doing it for fame and fortune. I know that my words will mean something to someone at some time. It's not about the masses. It's about the one. You, maybe.

So I haven't really talked about my volunteer work yet, but now is as good of a time as any. I am a hospice volunteer. My 'job' is to visit patients who are dying. When I tell people what I do, they recoil. It's a complete conversation stopper. and then they mumble something like, "good for you" and back away slowly. See, all the more reason. People fear death, and as a result, they don't want to be around someone who is dying. Why not? There is so much to learn.

At the end of their lives, the patients aren't thinking about the jobs that they had. They're not thinking about the tv shows that they watched or the happy hours they went to. They don't think about whether their house was clean. They think about their loved ones. They hope that they lived a good life and will go to heaven. Some of them re-hash the coulda shoulda woulda relationships with family and sometimes others just wish for one more day of driving around town with the windows down and the sun beaming.

LIVE your life and make the most of every day.

Directional Synchronicity: Postcrossing

There is a website for word of mouth marketers, of which I am a member (www.bzzzagent.com).
On the website, they have a feature called 'Frogpond' which links to other websites and tells you to go to them and check them out and write reviews and forward to your friends, etc. Most times in the past when I checked out the recommended websites, it was something that was of little interest to me or required a fee. I hadn't looked at a frog pond website for months. And then, for some reason, I decided to go out there again and lo and behold I found Postcrossing.

Postcrossing (www.postcrossing.com) is for people who love to send and receive postcards. It was like the website was made for me. Every time I travel, I send postcards to a whole huge list of people. The problem is that I have stopped traveling so much. I know I could still send them anyways, but it's not as fun. Postcrossing is a website for people to send and receive postcards all over the world. It's set up in a way that you get what you give (kind of like karma). In other words, you can't receive a postcard until you send one. Once the recipient registers your postcard, your address will pop up for someone else to send a card to you.

I just signed up and mailed my first batch of postcards to five different countries a couple of weeks ago. So far, two of my postcards have been received and I have since received one. Today, I just addressed my next two postcards to Austria and Michigan. It makes me look forward to getting the mail every day. If you get into postcrossing as a result of this blog, let me know.

Mirror Coincidence: Condo for sale

A friend of mine is preparing to move and was looking at condominiums with her realtor. She found one that she really liked and as she was looking at framed items on the wall, she realized the condo belonged to two former co-workers. She liked the place so much she made an offer, but unfortunately the buyer and seller could not come to terms on the condo.

It was an amusing coincidence for all just the same.

Directional Synchronicity: Connections

At the Erma Bombeck Conference I went to last week, I went to a class on storytelling (how appropriate!). I wanted to talk to the instructor afterwards but she had a line of people. Since the class was right before lunch, I asked if she wanted to sit together for lunch and she said yes. I had previously agreed to meet up with another friend of mine, but he was running late, so I saved him a seat across from me. About halfway through the lunch, the instructor and my friend both looked at each other and recognized they went to college together, some 15 years earlier. My friend had been good friends with the instructor's sister and they ended up spending the rest of the day catching up. And to think - it was me who reconnected them!!

Directional Synchronicity: Pick Me!

At the Erma Bombeck conference last week, there was a class on writing greeting cards hosted by people from American Greetings. At the end of the class they had a drawing for gift bags. They gave out two prizes and when they drew the raffle ticket for the third prize no one had the number. A woman in the audience said we could just pretend it was her and give her the prize and the guy drawing said "no" and drew another number.

And of course, the next number he drew was legitimately her number. It was weird.

Mirror Synchronicity: Greeting Card Writer

I was at the Erma Bombeck writer's conference in Dayton last week and one evening the guest speakers were Matt Sloan and Aaron Yonda of Blame Society Productions. They showed a video clip of a youtube spoof they did called Greeting Card Writer. I think it was especially funny because the audience all identified with the character's 'inspiration.' After their speech was over, a man stood up in the audience and said he was a greeting card writer and they had used one of his greeting cards in the video and he was very touched. He was quite emotional... It was weird because of the hundreds of thousands of greeting cards out there, what are the odds? He then said that everyone watched it at his greeting card office and the lawyers would be calling soon. The speakers weren't sure if that was a joke or not!

Synchronicity: The Wonder Stuff

This is from a friend of mine:

Back in the early nineties in London, me and my mate John were big fans of UK band The Wonder Stuff and we saw them play live on a number of occasions, they were our favorite band. John is flying over to visit me in Columbus later this month, and who should be playing a tiny little one-off acoustic gig that week? At Bernie's, of all places? Miles Hunt, lead singer of the Wonder Stuff. Don't know if that counts but at the very least it's a hell of a coincidence.

Directional Synchronicity: Embrace Your Emotional Pain

So this is amusing in a sad, twisted way. I bought these 'Growth and Enlightenment' Cards when I was in Sedona. I am semi-addicted to them - they're fun. What's really weird is that there are 50 cards in the deck, and although I shuffle very well every day, I end up drawing the same few cards over and over. The worst one says 'Embrace your emotional pain' and it's the card that I drew the day I got bad news at work. Then last week both my husband I and drew that same card the same day, the day after we had a disagreement. Freaky.

Mirror Synchronicity: Cava

I was having dinner with my uncle and he was talking about an upcoming trip to Spain and how he was going to have some Cava with my cousin. Cava is a Spanish wine that I had never heard of until that evening. The following day, my husband and I were on our way to work and someone on the a.m. radio show that he listens to was telling a story about an Uncle and drinking Cava. It was really weird!
